Ashley Gillanders (b. 1986) is an emerging visual artist from Winnipeg, Canada, currently working in Chicago, IL. Her practice incorporates new media, sculpture, and experimental approaches to photography to explore the natural and the artificial, and the distance between physical and virtual space. While earlier work uses references to the landscape and organic objects as tools to explore these ideas, current works use draped fabrics and mirrors modeled and rendered in a 3-dimensional virtual space. She is a recent graduate of the MFA in studio (photography) at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was the 2016-2018 New Artist Society Scholar for the photography department.
