Ashley Gillanders (b. 1986) is an emerging visual artist from Winnipeg, Canada, currently working in Chicago. Her practice incorporates sculpture, new media, and experimental approaches to photography to explore the natural and the artificial, and the distance between physical and virtual space. While earlier work uses the Anthropocene, references to the landscape, and organic objects as tools to explore these ideas, current works use draped fabrics and mirrors modeled and rendered in a 3-dimensional virtual space. She is currently a New Artist Society Scholar and MFA candidate in the photography department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
