Ashley Gillanders is an emerging visual artist and educator from Winnipeg, Canada, currently working in Chicago, IL. Her practice incorporates sculpture, new media, and experimental approaches to photography to explore notions of artificiality and the distance between physical and virtual space. While earlier work employs imagery and references to organic objects as tools to explore these ideas, current work looks to draped fabrics and mirrors modeled and rendered in 3-dimensional virtual space. She is a recent graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s MFA in studio, where she was the New Artist Society Scholar in the photography department from 2016 to 2018.
