Ashley Gillanders is an interdisciplinary visual artist from Winnipeg, Canada, currently working in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX. Her practice incorporates sculpture, new media, and experimental approaches to photography to explore notions of artificiality, perception, and the distance between physical and virtual space. She received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was the New Artist Society Scholar in the photography department during her studies. She has been included in solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally and has been the recipient of numerous grants and scholarships for her work. Recent exhibitions include Heaven Gallery (Chicago), Platform Center for Photographic + Digital Arts (Winnipeg), ADDS DONNA (Chicago), 062 (Chicago), and Tokyo University of the Arts (Tokyo, Japan). She currently teaches at Midwestern State University, where she is an Assistant Professor of Photography in the Lamar D. Fain College of Fine Arts.
